Lanarkshire Housing Association (LHA) is registered as a social landlord (an RSL) under the Industrial and Provident Societies Act 1965 (Reg. No. 1941R(s)) and is a non-profit making organisation. We are also registered by the Scottish Government (Reg. No. HAL202), who regulate all social housing providers in Scotland, following the Housing (Scotland) Act 2001.
Our development activity was historically based in Motherwell district, which is now within North Lanarkshire Council. LHA hopes to expand its development work in Lanarkshire in the longer term, but meanwhile our housing provisions cover areas such as Motherwell, Bellshill, Mossend, Newarthill, Carfin, New Stevenston and Tannochside. We expect to have a housing stock of about 1,000 units by the year 2006, principally affordable homes for rent, with a small number of shared ownership properties.
LHA was first registered in 1978 when, in partnership with NLC, we successfully undertook a programme of improvements to older properties that fell below the ‘tolerable standards’. With our subsequent programme of new-build housing, over many years, we have expanded into an important social landlord with wider activities aimed at promoting social inclusion and protecting the environment.
